Unexpected side effect of coconut oil

@[Private], Totally blaming this one on you!

SOoooo....no one told me if I used coconut oil, that I'd have a train of pets following me, trying to lick my legs :)

No, but seriously, it smells delicious--like Samoa girl scout cookies. Also feels good on my skin, doesn't leave an oily residue. I put a little on the ends of my hair, too. Didn't make it look oily. I think might have m... Read More

Strange symptom

Last weekend I had a weird symptom set and haven't wanted to talk about it. Knew I should post to ask if others have this- how to stop, etc. My good HC'er friend reminded me to contact my doc when new symptoms hit- I didn't even think of it.

What it was, should I worry/ contact doc:

I was sitting up in bed and HR monitor beeping like usual. My husband started watching youtube videos and ... Read More

I've been MIA the past 2 months as my health took a nosedive. Didn't really think it could get any worse, but it did. Even googled the 'S-word' a couple of times, but didn't get much farther than that.

Having all sorts of trouble, but the main issue is digestion -- or lack of it. My stomach hasn't "growled" in probably 15 years. I've been on betaine HCL for ages, digestive enzymes in var... Read More

400mg Minocycline Daily?

Has anyone been on this maximum daily dosage of Minocycline for Lyme or other purposes for any substantial period?

I'm just wondering in light of the Vagus Nerve infection/inflammation hypothesis, it seems that there are very few ways to effectively inhibit glial cell activation potently other than Ibudilast and Minocycline and possibly Dimethylfumarate (Tecfidera) as used in Multiple Scler... Read More

Doc horror story rant

As @[Private] posted about her recent dr visit, during which, she was told her illness was secondary, and that primary were psychiatric issues, I have a similar experience to report.

Last week, I spoke with the Nurse Advocate from my insurance company, with whom I have been working to help me get as many services as I am eligible for. I have been working with these "Advocates", a medica... Read More

My theme lately is to keep quiet and I realized I didn't want to post about this out of pride, shame, all those foolish emotions but this is the place to do it. I am lucky enough to get out of the house a few hours a week- one week I was out for 12. (I remember when I first read the definition of housebound somewhere and realized that is what I am for the most part- I am really talented with d... Read More

[EDIT: polls are now closed. We came in second place and made some great connections at the event] Thanks so, so much for your support.

Physical Therapy Review

Current Result: Little Better
Current Dosage: 2-3x week

Latest Review:

I started by working with the PT'ist one on one each week for two months. I have since been "set free" to do the routine that he gave me for the next month and a half. The goal being that I come in and do it at least 2-3 times a week. I also have exercises to do at home. I have been making it in about 2 times a week, but the ones at home have been harder to do with my step sons in town. However... Read More

Inside vs. Outside Air...

Dirty sooty windowtowel
Another weird question:

If you live near a highway or some heavily trafficked area, do you feel comfortable leaving your windows open on warm days or just for better ventilation, or do you think it's "safer" or healthier to keep the windows shut, at least during the day when traffic is bad?

I moved into a section 8 building about 15 months ago, supposedly a 'green' building (although have been wondering about that). I have a nice view, lots of trees, but there's a four-lane highway about 100-150 feet from the building.

I feel like I need to keep the window shut at least during the daytime, to keep the fumes from the buses, trucks and cars out of my apartment. My windows have screens in them. I took a picture of a paper towel I used to wipe part of one of the screens a couple nights ago. As you can see, it ain't so clean.

But then I've read that indoor air can be worse than outdoor. Certainly there's a definite lack of negative ions inside (and an overabundance of positive ones, especially in this complex which is loaded with unnecessary outlets and fluorescent fixtures. Low-energy you know, but bad EMF vibes, not to mention the mercury inside them.

So -- what would you recommend -- or how do you address this if you're living in a similar situation?

H202 Oxygen Therapy?

Has anyone dabbled in food grade hydrogen peroxide therapy?

There are a few well received books on Amazon (i.e. The One-Minute Cure: The Secret to Healing Virtually All Diseases, Flood Your Body with Oxygen) and I'd love to know if anyone has or knows anyone who has experience using this. Don't want to spring for expensive hyperbaric oxygen treatments given a simpler alternative. Would love... Read More

At least according to this study:

http://ajcn.nutrition.org/content/73/3/539.long

"Fish oil caused a significant reduction (mean decline: 48%) in NK cell activity that was fully reversed by 4 wk after supplementation had ceased."

Makes one wonder if we should avoid fish oil supps and/or oily fish, since in general peeps with ME/CFS have low NK cells and NK cell activity?

zyprexa Review

Current Result: Much Worse
Current Dosage: 5mg

Latest Review:

I took it for sleep, replacing klonopin. I guess it's better than nothing... i did get a few hours of horrible sleep. A lot of my symptoms were exacerbated. I felt somewhat paranoid and disconnected from myself. Also, I was too out-of-it (not sedated as hoped, though) to care about things like eating and checking email.

Odd Symptom Question!

Since WebMD always points me to cancer, thought I'd ask about an odd symptom here.

So, my armpit has been itching me half to death. Just one is them, the left one specifically. No visible rash or redness (prior to scratching), no lumps or bumps, no change in deodorants, lotions, laundry detergents, etc. After about a week, I used a cetafil moisturizer (didn't know what else to try) with no ... How many of you hold this special hope for a treatment that you cannot access? Sometimes more focus can be put on this than the treatments available to us now. I've noticed this in myself as well as others.

For me there have been a couple things recently that have taken up this space in my head, one was the CES sleep device and the other is Xyrem. I was able to finally try the expensive CES... Read More
